How the look works

The name was invented and the image was managed. She was born Scicolone in Naples, and Carlo Ponti, who produced her and later married her, built the star: he cultivated the image and reviewed the rushes daily to protect it. What gets copied when this look is copied is a construction, and it is easier to copy well knowing that.

What it was constructed out of is Naples, and Naples was cheap. The breakthrough was a nineteen year old playing a pizzaiola who loses her wedding ring. The materials underneath the glamour are the materials of a poor southern city: cotton, coral, olive oil, a gold ring, and one black dress doing everything.

So the wardrobe divides in two and both halves are real. There is the constructed half, Rome after ten, which is black lace, a low heel and a wing drawn without hesitating. And there is the Naples half, which is a cotton dress and an apron. The Oscar came for the second one.

The rule holding both together is that the glamour is worn as though it cost nothing. Everything here is heavy on the face and light on the body: coral, pearl, cat eye frames, a strong mouth, and clothes that are always simpler than the person inside them.
